Aerocool Advanced Technologies, one of world’s leading manufacturers of excellent gaming PC gear, introduces the new BattleHawk chassis as part of its value-for-money PGS-V (Performance Gaming System) series. The BattleHawk offers an aggressive design and a variety of features, which are otherwise known from much more expensive chassis. The list of features includes cable ducts for cable management, removable dust filter, pre-installed fans, embedded side window and the I/O panel with many extras.

BattleHawk offers space for ATX, microATX and miniATX mainboards as well as VGA card with a length of up to 390 mm. CPU Coolers with a total height of 155 mm fit into the chassis and even backplate-based coolers can be conveniently mounted thanks to the big opening in the mainboard tray. Aerocool equipped the new midi-tower with great cooling options. BattleHawk comes with three illuminated pre-installed 120-mm case fans, where one fan is located in the front, another one in the rear and the last one in the top of the case. Thanks to this setup, a solid cooling solution is provided out of the box, which then can be adjusted and enhanced later on according to the user’s demand.

BattleHawk offers space for up to three 3,5 inch hard disks and one 2,5 inch SSDs or HDDs in the HDD cage. Another 2,5 inch drive can be mounted on the rear side of the mainboard-tray. Two 5,25 inch optical drives can be mounted tool-free as well as one 3,5 inch drive on the top front side of the chassis. A door in the front panel hides the exposed bays and benefits the overall design. The I/O panel has been implemented in the top panel, offering one USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports, one mic and one headphone jack.

Besides these basic functions, a fan controller for up to four fans and even a card reader for SD and microSD cards have been built in.

The Ryzen 3 2200G, along with the Ryzen 5 2400G, is the first Ryzen CPU with Vega integrated GPU (iGPU.) The main differences between these two models are the presence of the SMT technology on the Ryzen 5, which makes it offer eight threads, and the model of the iGPU, since the Ryzen 3 2200G brings Vega 8 (eight compute units) and the Ryzen 5 2400G has the Vega 11 (11 compute units) GPU. Both the CPUs use 14 nm manufacturing process, have a TDP of 65 W, and are unlocked for overclocking.

While the Ryzen 3 2200G is similar to the Ryzen 3 1200 (both of them have four cores and four threads,) they have different structures. Ryzen CPUs are based on CCX (core complex) modules, and each CCX has four processing cores, 512 kiB of L2 cache for each core, and 8 MiB of shared L3 cache. On the Ryzen 3 1200, there are two CCX, each one with two disabled cores and half the L3 cache, so this CPU has a “2+2” structure. On the Ryzen 3 2200G, there is only one CCX, with the four cores enabled and only 4 MiB of L3 cache, so it has a “4+0” structure.

Our tests shown interesting conclusions. First, comparing the Ryzen 3 2200G and the Ryzen 3 1200, we noticed a performance gain on most tests. Obviously, it is due to the higher clock rate, but also to the different architecture with only one CCX, rather than two CCX with half the cores disabled each.

Comparing to the Intel CPUs, it is surprising to see the Ryzen 3 2200G on a technical tie to the Core i3-8100, which is a most expensive CPU, on most tests. However, keep in mind that, on games, there was a bottleneck caused by the GPU, so we cannot say how would they behave with a high-end video card.

 

CPU-Cooling

AMD Wraith Spire CPU Cooler. With the release of the Ryzen processors, AMD has also released a new line of Wraith Coolers which feature incredibly 92mm quiet fans, customizable RGB lighting and improved cooling performance. First, we have the small Wraith Stealth (65W TDP) which is bundled with the Ryzen 5 1400 processor, then there's the Wraith Spire (95W TDP) which comes with the Ryzen 5 1500X, 1600 and Ryzen 7 1700, and finally, we have the top-of-the-line Wraith Max (140W TDP) which is included with the Ryzen 7 1700X and 1800X.

All the new Wraith coolers are designed for near-silent operations and are capable of even handling overclocking. The new Wraith Coolers with the exception of the Wraith Stealth feature color-configurable LED illumination so you can tweak the LED of your cooler to match your overall build color scheme. AMD has stated that the new coolers utilize a new spring-screw clamping mechanism which is supposed to make the installation process much easier.

Overall, the Wraith Max and Wraith Spire coolers are more than capable of providing excellent cooling capabilities. The Wraith Max is a well designed stock cooler that competes well with low-end third party coolers. It is easily the best stock cooler on the market and it has no problems competing with after market coolers such as the CM 212 EVO. I am also very impressed with the Wraith Spire considering that it is way better than any Intel stock cooler. AMD certainly deserves a round of applause for bundling their Ryzen processors with fantastic stock coolers.

Analogous to the Radeon RX 580, the graphics chip of the RX 570 is manufactured in an optimized 14 nm FinFET process, which primarily enables higher clock rates - in our experience also an increased power requirement. AMD calls the graphics chip Polaris 20 XL, which is used on the Radeon RX 570 and has a base clock of 2668 MHz, which is 26 percent higher than the predecessor's Polaris 10 Pro.

With the Radeon RX 570 continues the model maintenance of the new RX-500 series from AMD: The revised manufacturing process allows higher clock rates (but also with increased power consumption). Only with Rise of the Tomb Raider and the ultra-setting very demanding Watch Dogs 2, the performance of the Polaris-20-XL graphics chip is not enough for the 60 fps - the Ultra-Settings differ visually but not much from high settings and In practice, playing in Watchdogs 2 is also possible with the RX 570 in very high graphic quality with 60 fps.

Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64Bit

Windows 10 is the Goldilocks version of Microsoft's venerable PC operating system -- a "just right" compromise between the familiar dependability of Windows 7, and the forward-looking touchscreen vision of Windows 8.

This new Windows, available as a free upgrade for existing Windows 7 and Windows 8 noncorporate users, is built from the ground up to pursue Microsoft's vision of a unified OS that spans all devices without alienating any one platform. It's an attempt to safeguard Microsoft's crumbling software hegemony, assailed on all sides by Google and Apple. And it's a vision of the future as Microsoft sees it, where a single user experience spans every piece of technology we touch. Welcome to Windows as a service.

Yes, this new OS is chock-full of fresh features. To name just a few: a lean, fast Internet Explorer replacement called Edge; Microsoft's Siri-like voice-controlled virtual assistant, Cortana; and the ability to stream real-time games to your desktop from an Xbox One in another room. (And in case you're wondering: there is no "Windows 9" -- Microsoft skipped it, going straight from 8 to 10.)

But Windows 10 is also the end of a long, awkward road that began with the release of Windows 8 in 2012, when Microsoft tried to convince a world of keyboard and mouse wielders that touchscreens were the way to go -- or else. Ironically, in 2015, the PC hardware for that touchscreen future is now here -- everything from 2-in-1s such as the Lenovo Yoga line to convertible tablets with detachable keyboards, like Microsoft's own Surface. And Windows 10 smoothly lets users transition from "tablet" to "PC" mode on such devices like never before.

For the rest of the PC universe -- including those who still prefer good old-fashioned keyboard and mouse navigation -- Windows 10 is a welcome return to form. The Start menu, inexplicably yanked from 8, is back and working the way you expect it to. Those live tiles from the Windows 8 home screen still exist, but they've been attached to the Start menu, where they make a lot more sense. And the fiendishly hidden Charms bar has been morphed into the more straightforward (and easier to find) Action Center.

As always, there are some quibbles and gripes with the end product, but all-in-all -- after living with Windows 10 for months -- I can say it's a winner. It's flexible, adaptable and customizable. And it's been battle-tested by an army of beta testers for the better part of a year, making it one of the most robust operating system rollouts in recent memory.

A fresh Start

The Start menu is back; it's almost funny how relieving that is. That humble Start button has been a fixture on the lower left corner of the Windows desktop since the halcyon days of Windows 95, offering speedy access to apps and settings. Press it on Windows 10, and you'll see the latest step in a long conversation about the state of the PC industry.

The past sits on the left: a neat column with shortcuts to your most used apps. Press the "All Apps" button and you'll get an alphabetical list of all of the apps installed on your PC. There are folders in there too -- press them, and extra options will fly out, just like they always have.

The future -- or at least, the future as Microsoft envisions it -- sits on the right side of the Start menu. These are the colorful, animated live tiles that debuted in Windows 8, pulling double duty as app shortcuts and informative widgets. You can resize these live tiles, drag them about to arrange them into groups and pin as many apps as you'd like -- the entire Start menu can be shrunk or expanded to suit your liking. It's essentially a miniaturized version of the fullscreen Start menu we saw in Windows 8. Hate live tiles? Then unpin them to excise them from your computer, leaving you with the narrow column of frequently used apps we've known for so long.
