The purchase argument for the fastest gaming CPU was previously reserved for Intel processors. But with the new Ryzen processors of the 5000 series, this changes. ASUS has now renamed the formerly independent TUF series (The Ultimate Force) to "TUF Gaming" and has been the entry point into the ASUS gaming world ever since. The ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus (Wi-Fi) is characterized by the colors black, gray and a little yellow. The I/O panel and the PCH fan are encased in a plastic cover. The engineers paid special attention to the capacitors, which had to go through a strict quality test. In general, the layout of the board is well thought out.

ASUS installs four DIMM sockets (dual channel) on the mainboard. With current 32 GB memory kits, you could create a more than sufficient memory expansion to 128 GB (max. 3,200 MHz, 4,400 MHZ in the OC). In order to be able to avoid the problem of possible overheating, the manufacturer installs two passive heat sinks (voltage converters) and an active chipset cooler (fan) at the factory. ASUS has given the board a digital power supply that can access 6+2 phases (6 phases for the CPU; 2 phases for the memory). With the new X570 boards, ASUS advertises the so-called SafeSlot, which the manufacturer describes as a particularly hard-wearing version of a PCIe slot with metal reinforcement. This should offer potential advantages when using heavy high-end graphics cards.

The Samsung OEM SSD PM9A1 is made entirely of semiconductor components and uses NAND flash memory, which has high reliability and advanced technology in a small form factor. As an HDD, the Toshiba P300 can of course not keep up with the performance of an SSD, but at least it costs only a fraction of correspondingly large SSDs such as the Samsung 960 Pro. In comparison with its HDD counterparts, the transfer rates of the P300 are still good. The hard drive achieved a read rate of 198 MB / s in the test. The same can be said about the writing speed of the P300. In the test, our test files are written to the large memory at a rate of 195 Mbyte / s - the access time is a good 6.88 milliseconds. At least among the 4TB models, we have measured the best results with the P300 so far.

With a great price-performance ratio, the Toshiba P300 with a capacity of four terabytes is aimed at PC users with large amounts of data and a tight budget. Despite the low price, the hard drive does well in the test and can convince with transfer rates of almost 200 MB per second.

The browser is really new in Windows 10: Edge replaces Internet Explorer. The new browser doesn't just have the cooler name. It is also much faster. In almost all browser benchmarks, Edge depends on IE 11 from Windows 8.1. It can almost double its pace in Mozilla's Kraken benchmark. It looks the same in Google's Octane 2.0 test. Its pace remains roughly the same in the Sunspider test and the Peacekeeper benchmark. Conclusion: When it comes to the browser speed, Windows 10 with Edge catches up a lot. Windows start

Microsoft already shortened the start times of Windows extremely with Windows 8. If the computer is switched off using "Shut down", it does not switch itself off, but only goes into hibernation - from which it can wake up more quickly. Even with a real Katlstart or restart, Windows 8.1 is slightly slower: However, over time, Windows remembers the files that it needs for the start: The start time is shortened with repeated starts. After ten starts, the two operating systems were almost on par with 20 seconds (Windows 10) and 22 seconds (Windows 8.1).

System performance

Windows is actually getting faster and faster the older it gets: For most components, manufacturers are releasing ever more up-to-date drivers that accelerate the hardware. Windows feels like it is getting slower and slower: This is mostly due to the fact that the autostart folder is filling up with more and more entries, more and more tools are running in the background and more and more programs that are no longer used are littering the memory. The performance tests show hardly any difference between Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. Sometimes one system is faster, sometimes the other. But all the results are so closely related - with less than three percent difference - that no difference is noticeable in practice. This also applies to tests such as Cinebench R15, which primarily check the processor performance. Even if we repeated the tests several times, nothing changed: When saving and buffering frequently used files, nothing seems to have changed between Windows 8.1 and 10. Conclusion: When it comes to hardware performance, Windows 10 is as fast as Windows 8.1 - or vice versa. So that Windows 10 stays fast, the same rules apply as always with Windows: Install the latest drivers and keep the system clean.

3D performance

Windows 10 comes with the new Direct X12 3D interface. DX12 is designed to allow game programmers to use the capabilities of the GPU more efficiently. Computers with less powerful graphics cards can also benefit from this and display graphically complex games more smoothly. At the moment, the potential of DX12 can only be demonstrated using synthetic benchmarks such as the API overhead test. Conclusion: Windows 10 has the potential to accelerate games on weaker systems thanks to the DX12. But the concrete results will only show games that use DX12. The first should appear at the end of the year.

Windows 10 lays a good foundation: the hardware manufacturers have to use this to tease out a performance plus with improved drivers. Or in the case of Direct X12 game programmers who use the capabilities of the new interface in games.
