Aerocool Advanced Technologies, one of world’s leading manufacturers of excellent gaming PC gear, introduces the new BattleHawk chassis as part of its value-for-money PGS-V (Performance Gaming System) series. The BattleHawk offers an aggressive design and a variety of features, which are otherwise known from much more expensive chassis. The list of features includes cable ducts for cable management, removable dust filter, pre-installed fans, embedded side window and the I/O panel with many extras.

BattleHawk offers space for ATX, microATX and miniATX mainboards as well as VGA card with a length of up to 390 mm. CPU Coolers with a total height of 155 mm fit into the chassis and even backplate-based coolers can be conveniently mounted thanks to the big opening in the mainboard tray. Aerocool equipped the new midi-tower with great cooling options. BattleHawk comes with three illuminated pre-installed 120-mm case fans, where one fan is located in the front, another one in the rear and the last one in the top of the case. Thanks to this setup, a solid cooling solution is provided out of the box, which then can be adjusted and enhanced later on according to the user’s demand.

BattleHawk offers space for up to three 3,5 inch hard disks and one 2,5 inch SSDs or HDDs in the HDD cage. Another 2,5 inch drive can be mounted on the rear side of the mainboard-tray. Two 5,25 inch optical drives can be mounted tool-free as well as one 3,5 inch drive on the top front side of the chassis. A door in the front panel hides the exposed bays and benefits the overall design. The I/O panel has been implemented in the top panel, offering one USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports, one mic and one headphone jack.

Besides these basic functions, a fan controller for up to four fans and even a card reader for SD and microSD cards have been built in.

There's no doubt that AMD's Ryzen processors challenged Intel's position in the desktop PC market this summer. Seemingly in response (though we all know this stuff is planned way in advance), the Coffee Lake-based Core i7 and i5 CPUs landed with six cores each. That was a first for Intel's mainstream platform.

The Core i5 series typically offers enthusiasts the best performance for their Euro. But with those two extra cores, Intel's highest-end Core i5 is now faster than Core i7-7700K in most games, and even in some applications. This means the Coffee Lake Core i5s basically replace last generation's Core i7s. Now the mid-range chips can backstop top-end GPUs without becoming bottlenecks.

Like the more expensive Core i5-8600K, Intel's -8400 features six cores without Hyper-Threading. Aside from its locked multiplier, the key differences boil down to clock rates, thermal design power, and price. A 2.8 GHz base frequency is the lowest of all Coffee Lake-based processors, including Intel's Core i3 models.
On the surface, a lower clock rate looks bad for performance. But remember that Intel's Turbo Boost technology accelerates frequencies within certain parameters. This allows the -8400 to go quite a bit faster in workloads that don't tax all of the -8400's cores. As you can see in the table above, the 8400's multi-core Turbo Boost bins get a lot more aggressive than Core i5-7400's. And they only trail the -8600K by 300 MHz.
Intel's Core i5-8400 is the cheapest modern six-core CPU, if you believe the company's recommended customer price. That's quite the feat, given AMD's competitive Ryzen 5 family. Although the -8400 ships with the Coffee Lake line-up's lowest base clock rate, that frequency is offset by more aggressive Turbo Boost bins. As such, lightly-threaded apps spin up nicely, while parallelized workloads benefit from six physical cores working together.

CPU-Cooling

ALPENFÖHN Super Silent HI-TECH Gaming Edition, Type: Tower Cooler • Dimensions (WxHxD): 146x155x125mm • Fan: 1x 120x120x25mm RGB illuminated, 400-1050rpm, 103m³ / h, 22dB (A) • Weight: 850g • Connector: 4-pin PWM • sockets: 775, 1150, 1151, 1155, 1156, 1366, 2011, 2011-3, 2066, AM2, AM2 +, AM3, AM3 +, AM4, FM1, FM2, FM2 + • Special features: 4 heatpipes (6mm), heatpipe Direct touch, black finish, RGB control.

The completely black design gives the radiator an excellent and discreet look. However, the actual fan, measuring 130 mm, has been replaced by a transparent plastic case for the actual rotor in order to show off the RGB lighting.

New is the 4-pin RGB connector. We decided to use the fan directly via the RGB header on the board, ASUS AURA e.g. or via the enclosed switch if the mainboard does not have an RGB header yet. Thus, everyone can enjoy chic lighting, even if the board does not have RGB headers. If the lighting is activated by a switch, some modes are available. You can choose between different modes like color flow, single color or pulses. Adjust the speed and brightness as well as select different ready-made colors.

Once again we show that one does not always have to reinvent a wheel to present a very good cooler. Excellent cooling performance, 100% RAM compatibility, and a fan with a high-quality FDB bearing that produces no noticeable noise.

The black paint is also excellent for the cooler and if you do not want the lighting, you can simply switch it off, but still enjoy the discreet design.

Memory

Graphic Card(s)

PALIT GeForce GTX 1050 Ti StormX, DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort, Chip: GP107-400-A1 "Pascal" • Chip clock: 1290MHz, Boost: 1392MHz • Memory: 4GB GDDR5, 1750MHz, 128bit, 112GB/s • Shader Units/TMUs/ROPs: 768/48/32 • computing power: 2138GFLOPS (Single), 67GFLOPS (Double) • Manufacturing process: 14nm • Power consumption: 75W (TDP), not specified (idle) • DirectX: 12.0 (Feature-Level 12-1) • OpenGL: 4.5 • OpenCL: 1.2 • Vulkan: 1.0 • Shader model: 5.0 • Interface: PCIe 3.0 x16 • Total height: dual-slot • Cooling: 1x Axial-fan (80mm) • Connectors: DVI, HDMI 2.0b, DisplayPort 1.4 • external Power supply: not available • Dimensions: 166x112mm • Special features: H.265 encode/decode, NVIDIA G-Sync, NVIDIA VR-Ready, HDCP 2.2

The GTX 1050 Ti is the spiritual successor to the popular GTX 750 Ti from 2014. There are certain traits that make these cards so attractive: small form factors; low power consumption; and the ability to play the latest games at Full HD resolution. The 1050 Ti ticks all of these boxes.

Based on a fully enabled GP107 GPU, this card is arguably the backbone of NVIDIA’s entry-level offerings. It has 6 SMs enabled – 60% that of GP106/GTX 1060 – so GP107 is a bit more than half of a GP106. The rest of the Pascal architecture has been scaled similarly; GP107/GTX 1050 Ti retains 2/3rds of the ROP and memory controller configuration, meaning we’re looking at 32 ROPs attached to a 128-bit memory bus. Notably, this is double the number of ROPs found on GTX 750, so all other factors held equal, GTX 1050TI will see a massive jump in ROP throughput compared to its predecessor. Feeding GTX 1050 Ti is 4GB of GDDR5 memory, clocked at 7Gbps. This is a budget card – and a power limited one at that – so NVIDIA has pulled back on the memory clocks compared to the other Pascal cards. Meanwhile power consumption starts at 75W, the maximum amount allowed to be pulled from a PCIe slot. We say “starts” because NVIDIA will be allowing partners (in this case: PALIT) to sell factory overclocked cards, and these cards will feature a higher TDP and an external power connector in order to meet the card’s power needs. The significance of offering a 75W-and-under card cannot be overstated; there is a sizable market for end users who would like to upgrade an OEM system but don’t have an external power connector, and this is a role the preceding GTX 750 filled very well. Meanwhile HTPC users who were holding out for a 75W card will be equally pleased, as now Pascal’s suite of media features are on a lower power card.

Sound

1. Realtek Codec
2. High Definition Audio
3. 7.1

The Realtek is among the tested onboard audio chips, the measure of all things. Here you can access without hesitation, because they apply a lot. Above all there is is a great quality that can compete not only with regular sound cards, but many of them also proposes to flight. It is built on Gigabyte motherboards. And since almost everything on this motherboard was designed in the quality gloss, it's probably no surprise that the onboard audio can not splash out.

Dolby Digital EX is an extension of Dolby Digital multi-channel sound system and was founded in 1999 with the movie Star Wars: Episode I imagined.

To the 5.1 speakers of the Dolby Digital system nor is one back surround added (6.1) and optionally also a center surround (7.1) channel that is from the speaker on the rear wall shown wird.Das signal this sixth channel in the signal for the left and right surround channel encoded (the signal corresponds to all the tones which are in the left and right surround channel are identical) and decrypted with a special decoder. The coding is similar to the matrix of the analog encoding Dolby Pro Logic, by phase encoding. This ensures backward compatibility with Dolby Digital 5.1 is guaranteed.

The cinema version operates on the same principle and is run under the name "Dolby Digital Surround EX".

In a 6.1 home theater arrangement only makes sense, if a very large distance between the left and right surround channel exists. Otherwise enough to play the seventh channel (center surround) on the 5.1 arrangement, with a phantom surround center is formed by the two surround speakers.

Software

Microsoft Windows 10 Professional 64Bit, Full Version!

Windows 10 is the Goldilocks version of Microsoft's venerable PC operating system -- a "just right" compromise between the familiar dependability of Windows 7, and the forward-looking touchscreen vision of Windows 8.

This new Windows, available as a free upgrade for existing Windows 7 and Windows 8 noncorporate users, is built from the ground up to pursue Microsoft's vision of a unified OS that spans all devices without alienating any one platform. It's an attempt to safeguard Microsoft's crumbling software hegemony, assailed on all sides by Google and Apple. And it's a vision of the future as Microsoft sees it, where a single user experience spans every piece of technology we touch. Welcome to Windows as a service.

Yes, this new OS is chock-full of fresh features. To name just a few: a lean, fast Internet Explorer replacement called Edge; Microsoft's Siri-like voice-controlled virtual assistant, Cortana; and the ability to stream real-time games to your desktop from an Xbox One in another room. (And in case you're wondering: there is no "Windows 9" -- Microsoft skipped it, going straight from 8 to 10.)

But Windows 10 is also the end of a long, awkward road that began with the release of Windows 8 in 2012, when Microsoft tried to convince a world of keyboard and mouse wielders that touchscreens were the way to go -- or else. Ironically, in 2015, the PC hardware for that touchscreen future is now here -- everything from 2-in-1s such as the Lenovo Yoga line to convertible tablets with detachable keyboards, like Microsoft's own Surface. And Windows 10 smoothly lets users transition from "tablet" to "PC" mode on such devices like never before.

For the rest of the PC universe -- including those who still prefer good old-fashioned keyboard and mouse navigation -- Windows 10 is a welcome return to form. The Start menu, inexplicably yanked from 8, is back and working the way you expect it to. Those live tiles from the Windows 8 home screen still exist, but they've been attached to the Start menu, where they make a lot more sense. And the fiendishly hidden Charms bar has been morphed into the more straightforward (and easier to find) Action Center.

As always, there are some quibbles and gripes with the end product, but all-in-all -- after living with Windows 10 for months -- I can say it's a winner. It's flexible, adaptable and customizable. And it's been battle-tested by an army of beta testers for the better part of a year, making it one of the most robust operating system rollouts in recent memory.

A fresh Start

The Start menu is back; it's almost funny how relieving that is. That humble Start button has been a fixture on the lower left corner of the Windows desktop since the halcyon days of Windows 95, offering speedy access to apps and settings. Press it on Windows 10, and you'll see the latest step in a long conversation about the state of the PC industry.

The past sits on the left: a neat column with shortcuts to your most used apps. Press the "All Apps" button and you'll get an alphabetical list of all of the apps installed on your PC. There are folders in there too -- press them, and extra options will fly out, just like they always have.

The future -- or at least, the future as Microsoft envisions it -- sits on the right side of the Start menu. These are the colorful, animated live tiles that debuted in Windows 8, pulling double duty as app shortcuts and informative widgets. You can resize these live tiles, drag them about to arrange them into groups and pin as many apps as you'd like -- the entire Start menu can be shrunk or expanded to suit your liking. It's essentially a miniaturized version of the fullscreen Start menu we saw in Windows 8. Hate live tiles? Then unpin them to excise them from your computer, leaving you with the narrow column of frequently used apps we've known for so long.
