Like the Core i9 12900K, the Core i5 12600K relies on the new Socket 1700 with support for DDR5 RAM and PCI Express 5.0. In this case, too, the greatest special feature is the mixture of fast and slow cores, called P cores and E cores or performance cores and efficiency cores. Intel's basic idea makes sense: If the PC only has to take on less demanding tasks, the frugal efficiency cores are used. On the other hand, when it comes to more demanding work such as gaming, the performance cores provide enough power.
This also means a higher core count. The Core i5 12600K has a total of 10 cores, while the predecessor 11600K only has six of them. In this comparison, however, you always have to keep in mind that four of the ten cores of the 12600K are just a little less fast than the six P cores. It is easily possible to achieve very similar performance with the Core i5 12600K as with the Core i9 12900K or the Ryzen 9 5900X. So if you really mainly play with your PC and accordingly do not (yet) need the additional cores of expensive models, the Core i5 12600K can be a good choice. Jonsbo describes the largest cooler in the series as the CR 2000 GT. Microsoft already shortened the start times of Windows extremely with Windows 8. Windows is actually getting faster and faster the older it gets: For most components, manufacturers are releasing ever more up-to-date drivers that accelerate the hardware. The performance tests show hardly any difference between Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. Sometimes one system is faster, sometimes the other. But all the results are so closely related - with less than three percent difference - that no difference is noticeable in practice. This also applies to tests such as Cinebench R15, which primarily check the processor performance. Even if we repeated the tests several times, nothing changed: When saving and buffering frequently used files, nothing seems to have changed between Windows 8.1 and 10. Conclusion: When it comes to hardware performance, Windows 10 is as fast as Windows 8.1 - or vice versa. So that Windows 10 stays fast, the same rules apply as always with Windows: Install the latest drivers and keep the system clean.
Windows 10 comes with the new Direct X12 3D interface. DX12 is designed to allow game programmers to use the capabilities of the GPU more efficiently. Computers with less powerful graphics cards can also benefit from this and display graphically complex games more smoothly. At the moment, the potential of DX12 can only be demonstrated using synthetic benchmarks such as the API overhead test. Conclusion: Windows 10 has the potential to accelerate games on weaker systems thanks to the DX12. But the concrete results will only show games that use DX12. The first should appear at the end of the year.
