After competitor AMD pushed ahead with its "Raphael" CPUs, Intel puts its 13th generation of Core i processors in the limelight. In addition to AMD's Zen 4 processors, Intel's Raptor Lake models will also have support for M.2 SSDs with PCI Express 5.0. However, the first production-ready SSDs should not appear until 2023. Good: According to Intel, Raptor Lake processors continue to work with DDR4 and newer and faster DDR5 memory - the new Intel CPUs digest models of the latter type that clock at up to 5,600 megahertz.
Compared to their predecessors of the Alder Lake generation, the Raptor Lake CPUs come with more cores, including new Gracemont E cores, higher clock speeds and, consequently, higher power consumption. The Core i7-13700K has 16 cores (8 of which are P and E cores) and 24 threads. The CPU is certified with a maximum turbo clock of 5.4 GHz.
The average Full HD frame rate has increased by seven to twelve percent across all test constellations. At the minimum frame rates, the increase is already 11 to 14 percent for Full HD. At 4K and QHD, the Raptor Lake CPUs were also able to outperform Alder Lake, but not by 14 percent.

SAMSUNG SSD PM9A1 1TB, M.2, design Solid State Module (SSM), form factor M.2 2280, interface M.2 / M-Key (PCIe 4.0 x4), read 7000MB / s, write 5100MB / s SLC-Cached IOPS 4K read / write 1000k / 850k, memory modules 3D-NAND TLC, Samsung, 136 layers (V-NAND v6), reliability prognosis 1.5 million hours (MTBF), Samsung Elpis (S4LV003) controller, 8 channels, 1GB cache (LPDDR4), SLC cache, NVMe 1.3c protocol, data protection functions 256bit AES, TCG Opal 2.0, power consumption 0.035W (idle), 0.005W (sleep mode), special features L1.2 low-power standby.
The Samsung OEM SSD PM9A1 is made entirely of semiconductor components and uses NAND flash memory, which has high reliability and advanced technology in a small form factor. Thanks to the support of the Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe) 4.0 interface standard, performance is much faster than that of SATA SSDs. A comparison of the speed makes it clear that the PM9A1 version is definitely ahead. In contrast to the 6,000 MB / s, the two previous models only offered 3,500 MB / s. This is no wonder. After all, both OEMs were equipped with PCIe 3.0 and not the latest PCIe 4.0 standard.
The Samsung PM9A1 is an M.2 SSD with PCIe 4.0 and practically the OEM counterpart to the 980 Pro.
SEAGATE BarraCuda Compute 4TB, 3.5", 256MB, SATA 6Gb/s, form factor 3.5", 20mm, cache 256MB, power consumption 3.7W (operation), 2.5W (idle), noise level 24dB(A) (operation), 22dB(A) (idle), recording method Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR), Drive Managed SMR, sectors 4KB with emulation (512e).
After Hitachi and Western Digital, Seagate is now also offering a 4 terabyte model for desktop PCs. On the other hand, the manufacturer has the edge in terms of data density with 1000 GB per magnetic disk.
The rotational speed of the is only 5400 instead of 7200 revolutions per minute, as was previously the case with the Barracudas. This ensures lower power consumption, but at the expense of the transfer rates. However, Seagate compensates for this slowdown with the high data density and packs a whole terabyte onto a magnetic disk. According to the manufacturer, this corresponds to up to 340,000 data tracks on a width of around 25 millimeters. Converted, the track width is only 75 nanometers.
This requires extremely precise control of the read/write heads. To do this, Seagate uses AcuTrac technology, which constantly determines the flying height of the heads via two sensors and compensates for it with the finest temperature changes in the carrier material. In addition, Seagate uses Advanced Format technology to increase the sector size from 512 bytes to 4 kilobytes - this reduces the additional memory requirements for address and check bits, which are then available for user data.
The sequential transfer performance of the 4 TB drive from Seagate is impressive: the 3.5-inch hard drive achieves a maximum of almost 175 MB/s. In the particularly fast burst mode, in which the hard disk transfers data directly via the 64 MB buffer memory, the transfer rate even climbed to almost 250 MB/s.

Microsoft Windows 10 Professional 64Bit, pre-installed with all necessary device drivers. Switch on and get started!
The launch of Windows 10 and the associated developments are among the most important market launches in Microsoft's corporate history. Windows 10 not only brings a new version of the operating system onto the market, Windows 10 enables a new platform generation:
"We want to ensure that we offer developers the largest and most vibrant user base for their applications," said Satya Nadella in his opening keynote at BUILD 2015 in San Francisco. Windows 10 is now available in 190 countries and 111 languages.
The browser is really new in Windows 10: Edge replaces Internet Explorer. The new browser doesn't just have the cooler name. It is also much faster. In almost all browser benchmarks, Edge depends on IE 11 from Windows 8.1. It can almost double its pace in Mozilla's Kraken benchmark. It looks the same in Google's Octane 2.0 test. Its pace remains roughly the same in the Sunspider test and the Peacekeeper benchmark. Conclusion: When it comes to the browser speed, Windows 10 with Edge catches up a lot. In Kraken and Octane, Edge overtakes the competition, in the Sunspider he stays ahead. The old conditions are only preserved in the Peacekeeper test.
Windows start
Microsoft already shortened the start times of Windows extremely with Windows 8. If the computer is switched off using "Shut down", it does not switch itself off, but only goes into hibernation - from which it can wake up more quickly. Even with a real Katlstart or restart, Windows 8.1 is slightly slower: However, over time, Windows remembers the files that it needs for the start: The start time is shortened with repeated starts. After ten starts, the two operating systems were almost on par with 20 seconds (Windows 10) and 22 seconds (Windows 8.1).
System performance
Windows is actually getting faster and faster the older it gets: For most components, manufacturers are releasing ever more up-to-date drivers that accelerate the hardware. Windows feels like it is getting slower and slower: This is mostly due to the fact that the autostart folder is filling up with more and more entries, more and more tools are running in the background and more and more programs that are no longer used are littering the memory. The performance tests show hardly any difference between Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. Sometimes one system is faster, sometimes the other. But all the results are so closely related - with less than three percent difference - that no difference is noticeable in practice. This also applies to tests such as Cinebench R15, which primarily check the processor performance. Even if we repeated the tests several times, nothing changed: When saving and buffering frequently used files, nothing seems to have changed between Windows 8.1 and 10. Conclusion: When it comes to hardware performance, Windows 10 is as fast as Windows 8.1 - or vice versa. So that Windows 10 stays fast, the same rules apply as always with Windows: Install the latest drivers and keep the system clean.
3D performance
Windows 10 comes with the new Direct X12 3D interface. DX12 is designed to allow game programmers to use the capabilities of the GPU more efficiently. Computers with less powerful graphics cards can also benefit from this and display graphically complex games more smoothly. At the moment, the potential of DX12 can only be demonstrated using synthetic benchmarks such as the API overhead test. Conclusion: Windows 10 has the potential to accelerate games on weaker systems thanks to the DX12. But the concrete results will only show games that use DX12. The first should appear at the end of the year.
Windows 10 lays a good foundation: the hardware manufacturers have to use this to tease out a performance plus with improved drivers. Or in the case of Direct X12 game programmers who use the capabilities of the new interface in games.
