Processor

AMD Ryzen 5 5600X @ 4,60 GHz, Socket AM4, code name Vermeer, cores 6, threads 12, base clock 3.70GHz, turbo clock 4.60GHz, SMT yes, memory controller dual channel PC4-25600U (DDR4-3200), free multiplier yes, CPU functions MMX (+ ), SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSE4.1, SSE4.2, SSE4A, x86-64, AMD-V, AES, AVX, AVX2, FMA3, SHA Architecture Zen 3, L2 cache 3MB (6x 512kB), L3 cache 32MB (1x 32MB), chipset interface PCIe 4.0 x4, PCIe lanes 24x PCIe 4.0 (16 + 4 + 4), memory max. 128GB Memory bandwidth 51.2GB / s.

AMD offers the Ryzen 5600X processor, which is particularly interesting for gamers, below the two top models. This is due to the fact that many games still cannot handle more than eight cores, at least not noticeably.

Intel's Core i9-10900K is already sweating in the face of the smallest Zen 3 processor available to date. Even in the multicore-optimized Battlefield 5, the 5600X manages to outperform the competition. Anno 1800 is once again interesting in many ways. So far, only players with an Intel CPU could think of conjuring up larger cities smoothly on the screen. Now it's all the better with a Ryzen 5600X. The eight-core Ryzen 7 5800X shines here with a perfect connection to the L3 cache and can fully exploit its strengths and just behind it the Ryzen 5 5600X sneaks in front of the top models.

With Total War, Death Stranding and SOTTR, there are only three games in the test in which a Core i9-10900K can still assert itself. Intel then sees no more land against AMD's new eight-core, the 5800X trumps all Intel CPUs. Exceptions are games that scale very well with cores, for example the great Red Dead Redemption 2 or Battlefield 5.
The Hexacore Ryzen 5 5600X is used by those who "only" play and still do not want to forego the very high Zen 3 performance.

CPU-Cooling

SILENTIUMPC Spartan 4 Max Evo ARGB. SilentiumPC offers the Spartan 4 CPU cooler in four versions. RGB lighting is also reserved for certain versions. The Spartan 4 MAX is not only a bit bigger, but above all, it is more powerful. In addition, the number of heat pipes increases. In addition, the lamellar body and thus the height of the radiator grow to a still low 143 millimeters. At the same time, the fan is being replaced by a 120 mm version that can be operated between 250 and 1,500 rpm. This enables a TDP of 150 watts to be cooled.

Spartan 4 Max Evo ARGB is offered with an illuminated ARGB fan, in which each individual LED can be controlled separately. Not only the fan blades but also the fan frame are illuminated. The speed range remains the same compared to the non-illuminated fans of the standard models. The lighting can be controlled via a suitable mainboard or a suitable controller. If both are missing, an auto-LED function can at least start the rainbow effect.

After NVIDIA launched the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti on the market in week 22, the next model is now following: the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti. Here, too, NVIDIA is increasing the expansion of the ampere GPU, probably with the Radeon RX 6800 more clearly in the barriers to refer or to get a little closer to the Radeon RX 6800 XT.

There is the GA104 graphics chip, which celebrated its debut in October 2020 with the RTX 3070, but has only been able to show what it is really made of in a professional environment. This is over now, the fillet pieces of GPU production are used on the Geforce RTX 3070 Ti: Chips with the ending "400" and thus the full configuration. The new Ampere graphics card has 48 shader multiprocessors, which include 6,144 FP32 ALUs, 328 texture units, 96 raster output stages and 48 ray tracing cores.

This alone does not make up much ground, which is why Nvidia makes use of a previously unused feature of the GA104: GDDR6X support. So far, the 256-bit wide memory interface of all GA104 models was equipped with 14 GT / s fast GDDR6-without-X memory, which led to a transfer rate of 448 GByte / s. The Geforce RTX 3070 Ti, on the other hand - like the RTX 3080 (Ti) - can use GDDR6X with 19 gigatransfers per second to copy data at 608 GByte / s. That is almost 36 percent faster and therefore a significant plus. The other performance parameters around a 4 MiByte level 2 cache depend directly on the memory controller and are therefore identical to the RTX 3070.

The RTX 3070 Ti achieves a good ten to fifty percent higher performance than the already comfortably fast RTX 3070 and can therefore basically satisfy almost all requirements, provided that WQHD gaming is the desired goal at most. Although the new ampere card is just below the Radeon RX 6800 when it comes to rasterizing, it can be around 21 percent behind when it comes to ray tracing. The warm feeling in the stomach area is also psychologically valuable, with the RTX 3070 Ti receiving the best, fully active GA104 chips and fast-paced GDDR6X memory. Modern game code is becoming more and more floating point, so time is an ally. Added to this are the improvements in the ray tracing and tensor units which, with appropriate programming, bring performance increases of up to 100 percent compared to Turing.

Thanks to the support of the Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe) 4.0 interface standard, performance is much faster than that of SATA SSDs. A comparison of the speed makes it clear that the PM9A1 version is definitely ahead. In contrast to the 6,000 MB / s, the two previous models only offered 3,500 MB / s. This is no wonder. After all, both OEMs were equipped with PCIe 3.0 and not the latest PCIe 4.0 standard.

The Samsung PM9A1 is an M.2 SSD with PCIe 4.0 and practically the OEM counterpart to the 980 Pro.

Software

Microsoft Windows 10 Professional 64Bit, pre-installed with all necessary device drivers. Switch on and get started!

The launch of Windows 10 and the associated developments are among the most important market launches in Microsoft's corporate history. Windows 10 not only brings a new version of the operating system onto the market, Windows 10 enables a new platform generation:

"We want to ensure that we offer developers the largest and most vibrant user base for their applications," said Satya Nadella in his opening keynote at BUILD 2015 in San Francisco. Windows 10 is now available in 190 countries and 111 languages.

The browser is really new in Windows 10: Edge replaces Internet Explorer. The new browser doesn't just have the cooler name. It is also much faster. In almost all browser benchmarks, Edge depends on IE 11 from Windows 8.1. It can almost double its pace in Mozilla's Kraken benchmark. It looks the same in Google's Octane 2.0 test. Its pace remains roughly the same in the Sunspider test and the Peacekeeper benchmark. Conclusion: When it comes to the browser speed, Windows 10 with Edge catches up a lot. In Kraken and Octane, Edge overtakes the competition, in the Sunspider he stays ahead. The old conditions are only preserved in the Peacekeeper test.

Windows start

Microsoft already shortened the start times of Windows extremely with Windows 8. If the computer is switched off using "Shut down", it does not switch itself off, but only goes into hibernation - from which it can wake up more quickly. Even with a real Katlstart or restart, Windows 8.1 is slightly slower: However, over time, Windows remembers the files that it needs for the start: The start time is shortened with repeated starts. After ten starts, the two operating systems were almost on par with 20 seconds (Windows 10) and 22 seconds (Windows 8.1).

System performance

Windows is actually getting faster and faster the older it gets: For most components, manufacturers are releasing ever more up-to-date drivers that accelerate the hardware. Windows feels like it is getting slower and slower: This is mostly due to the fact that the autostart folder is filling up with more and more entries, more and more tools are running in the background and more and more programs that are no longer used are littering the memory. The performance tests show hardly any difference between Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. Sometimes one system is faster, sometimes the other. But all the results are so closely related - with less than three percent difference - that no difference is noticeable in practice. This also applies to tests such as Cinebench R15, which primarily check the processor performance. Even if we repeated the tests several times, nothing changed: When saving and buffering frequently used files, nothing seems to have changed between Windows 8.1 and 10. Conclusion: When it comes to hardware performance, Windows 10 is as fast as Windows 8.1 - or vice versa. So that Windows 10 stays fast, the same rules apply as always with Windows: Install the latest drivers and keep the system clean.

3D performance

Windows 10 comes with the new Direct X12 3D interface. DX12 is designed to allow game programmers to use the capabilities of the GPU more efficiently. Computers with less powerful graphics cards can also benefit from this and display graphically complex games more smoothly. At the moment, the potential of DX12 can only be demonstrated using synthetic benchmarks such as the API overhead test. Conclusion: Windows 10 has the potential to accelerate games on weaker systems thanks to the DX12. But the concrete results will only show games that use DX12. The first should appear at the end of the year.

Windows 10 lays a good foundation: the hardware manufacturers have to use this to tease out a performance plus with improved drivers. Or in the case of Direct X12 game programmers who use the capabilities of the new interface in games.
