After competitor AMD pushed ahead with its "Raphael" CPUs, Intel puts its 13th generation of Core i processors in the limelight. In addition to AMD's Zen 4 processors, Intel's Raptor Lake models will also have support for M.2 SSDs with PCI Express 5.0. However, the first production-ready SSDs should not appear until 2023. Good: According to Intel, Raptor Lake processors continue to work with DDR4 and newer and faster DDR5 memory - the new Intel CPUs digest models of the latter type that clock at up to 5,600 megahertz.
Compared to their predecessors of the Alder Lake generation, the Raptor Lake CPUs come with more cores, including new Gracemont E cores, higher clock speeds and, consequently, higher power consumption. The Core i7-13700K has 16 cores (8 of which are P and E cores) and 24 threads. The CPU is certified with a maximum turbo clock of 5.4 GHz.
The average Full HD frame rate has increased by seven to twelve percent across all test constellations. At the minimum frame rates, the increase is already 11 to 14 percent for Full HD. At 4K and QHD, the Raptor Lake CPUs were also able to outperform Alder Lake, but not by 14 percent.

ASUS has presented its mainboards with the Z790 chipset, which have been optimized for the new Raptor Lake processors. Nevertheless, we want to highlight a few highlights. For example, ASUS focuses on the fact that the Raptor Lake processors support DDR5-5600, which is a significant increase over DDR5-4800. In fact, the new boards together with the processors will enable significantly higher memory clock rates. Here ASUS provides its own ASUS Enhanced Memory Profiles (AEMP), which support the user.
Thanks to the Q-Design functions, M.2 SSDs and graphics cards can be quickly and easily installed or replaced without any tools.
CRUCIAL DIMM 16GB, DDR5-4800, CL40-39-39, type DDR5 DIMM 288-pin, on-die ECC, clock 4800MHz, modules 2x 8GB, JEDEC PC5-38400U, ranks/banks single rank, x16, CAS Latency CL 40 (corresponds to ~16.67ns), Row-to-Column Delay tRCD 39 (corresponds to ~16.25ns), Row Precharge Time tRP 39 (corresponds to ~16.25ns), voltage 1.1V,
special features standard SPD.
Crucial deliberately does without a heat spreader in the value memory bars. The PCBs appear in chic black. The big advantage of the non-existing heat spreader is of course the fact that the modules are not in the way even with expansive CPU air coolers. The memory chips are of course from Micron and could be overclocked by 800 MHz in our short test, so that the effective clock frequency has increased to 5,600 MHz.
With just 4,800 MHz on the effective side, Crucial's value modules present themselves with exactly the native DDR5 maximum clock that Intel has specified for the 12th core generation (Alder Lake-S). An XMP in version 3.0 was programmed by Crucial to communicate the parameters specified by the manufacturer to the BIOS/UEFI in a simple manner.
The built-in Micron memory chips allow overclocking of a decent 800 MHz, i.e. up to DDR5-5600.
Positive properties of the Crucial Value DDR5 DIMMs:
good SPD programming including XMP 3.0
low module height for high cooler compatibility
good workmanship
Negative characteristics of the Crucial Value DDR5 DIMMs:
high price
ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 V2, 10GB GDDR6X, connections 2x HDMI 2.1, 3x DisplayPort 1.4a, chip GA102-202-KD-A1 "Ampere", 68SM, 628mm², chip clock 1440MHz, boost: 1740MHz (OC mode), memory 10GB GDDR6X, 1188MHz, 19Gbps (19008MHz effective), 320bit, 760GB/s, Shader Units/TMUs/ROPs 8704/272/96, cooling 3x axial fan (95mm), special features real-time raytracing, raytracing cores (68), tensor cores (272), NVIDIA G-Sync, NVIDIA VR-Ready, AV1 Decode, HDCP 2.3, 0dB zero fan mode (up to 55°C), backplate, LED lighting (RGB), boost clock overclocked (+30MHz), PCIe 4.0 x16 interface, computing power 30.29 TFLOPS (FP32), 473 GFLOPS (FP64), DirectX 12 Ultimate (12_2), OpenGL 4.6, OpenCL 3.0, Vulkan 1.2, Shader Model 6.6.
A good custom design is characterized by the fact that it already works optimally from the factory. Fan speeds, power limit, offset to the clock rates - all of this has to be explored and harmonized with each other. Asus has undoubtedly succeeded with the TUF Gaming OC.
The buyer of such a card has the choice between two default settings via the performance and quiet mode, each of which works very well. In Quiet Mode, the card is clocked 15 to 30 MHz lower, but this is hardly noticeable in the benchmarks, which is why we have not carried out separate tests. The software can also be used to choose between a Silent, Gaming and OC mode, but actually it is sufficient to leave this at the default values and then find the desired setting via the BIOS switch.
In Quiet Mode, the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 OC is only slightly louder than the MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming X Trio 10G, which was the quietest model in our test so far. The temperatures always range between 60 and 70 °C - no matter which preset is selected. The GPU Boost 5.0 of the Ampere generation also has certain temperature dependencies, but it doesn't make a big difference in the temperature window of the air cooling. Anything below 70 °C is considered positive. Of course, the lower the temperature at the end, the better. But you should also keep an eye on the volume. The ASUS model is already very well positioned here.
The voltage measurement points on the back of the PCB are a nice gimmick, but certainly don't matter to 99.9% of users. As far as the lighting is concerned, ASUS is holding back a bit, but here too personal taste decides how much RGB lighting there should be or not.

Microsoft Windows 10 Professional 64Bit, pre-installed with all necessary device drivers. Switch on and get started!
The launch of Windows 10 and the associated developments are among the most important market launches in Microsoft's corporate history. Windows 10 not only brings a new version of the operating system onto the market, Windows 10 enables a new platform generation:
"We want to ensure that we offer developers the largest and most vibrant user base for their applications," said Satya Nadella in his opening keynote at BUILD 2015 in San Francisco. Windows 10 is now available in 190 countries and 111 languages.
The browser is really new in Windows 10: Edge replaces Internet Explorer. The new browser doesn't just have the cooler name. It is also much faster. In almost all browser benchmarks, Edge depends on IE 11 from Windows 8.1. It can almost double its pace in Mozilla's Kraken benchmark. It looks the same in Google's Octane 2.0 test. Its pace remains roughly the same in the Sunspider test and the Peacekeeper benchmark. Conclusion: When it comes to the browser speed, Windows 10 with Edge catches up a lot. In Kraken and Octane, Edge overtakes the competition, in the Sunspider he stays ahead. The old conditions are only preserved in the Peacekeeper test.
Windows start
Microsoft already shortened the start times of Windows extremely with Windows 8. If the computer is switched off using "Shut down", it does not switch itself off, but only goes into hibernation - from which it can wake up more quickly. Even with a real Katlstart or restart, Windows 8.1 is slightly slower: However, over time, Windows remembers the files that it needs for the start: The start time is shortened with repeated starts. After ten starts, the two operating systems were almost on par with 20 seconds (Windows 10) and 22 seconds (Windows 8.1).
System performance
Windows is actually getting faster and faster the older it gets: For most components, manufacturers are releasing ever more up-to-date drivers that accelerate the hardware. Windows feels like it is getting slower and slower: This is mostly due to the fact that the autostart folder is filling up with more and more entries, more and more tools are running in the background and more and more programs that are no longer used are littering the memory. The performance tests show hardly any difference between Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. Sometimes one system is faster, sometimes the other. But all the results are so closely related - with less than three percent difference - that no difference is noticeable in practice. This also applies to tests such as Cinebench R15, which primarily check the processor performance. Even if we repeated the tests several times, nothing changed: When saving and buffering frequently used files, nothing seems to have changed between Windows 8.1 and 10. Conclusion: When it comes to hardware performance, Windows 10 is as fast as Windows 8.1 - or vice versa. So that Windows 10 stays fast, the same rules apply as always with Windows: Install the latest drivers and keep the system clean.
3D performance
Windows 10 comes with the new Direct X12 3D interface. DX12 is designed to allow game programmers to use the capabilities of the GPU more efficiently. Computers with less powerful graphics cards can also benefit from this and display graphically complex games more smoothly. At the moment, the potential of DX12 can only be demonstrated using synthetic benchmarks such as the API overhead test. Conclusion: Windows 10 has the potential to accelerate games on weaker systems thanks to the DX12. But the concrete results will only show games that use DX12. The first should appear at the end of the year.
Windows 10 lays a good foundation: the hardware manufacturers have to use this to tease out a performance plus with improved drivers. Or in the case of Direct X12 game programmers who use the capabilities of the new interface in games.
