The Core i7-11700K offers eight physical cores and can process up to 16 threads simultaneously thanks to SMT (Hyper-Threading) support. What is the fundamental difference between the Z590 chipset and the Z490: the major changes include native USB 3.2 Gen2x2 support (20 GBit / s) on up to three Type-C interfaces, and Wi-Fi 6E support and the DMI (Direct Media Interface) drilled to PCIe 3.0 x8 as a connection between CPU (Northbridge) and chipset (Southbridge). With the new Rocket Lake S processors, the Z590 chipset now also allows a more flexible PCIe lane division. 1x16 or 2x8 or 1x8 and 2x4 became 1x16 + 1x4 or 2x8 + 1x4 or even 1x 8 and 3x4. After NVIDIA launched the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti on the market in week 22, the next model is now following: the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti. Although the new ampere card is just below the Radeon RX 6800 when it comes to rasterizing, it can be around 21 percent behind when it comes to ray tracing. Even if we repeated the tests several times, nothing changed: When saving and buffering frequently used files, nothing seems to have changed between Windows 8.1 and 10. Conclusion: When it comes to hardware performance, Windows 10 is as fast as Windows 8.1 - or vice versa. So that Windows 10 stays fast, the same rules apply as always with Windows: Install the latest drivers and keep the system clean.
Windows 10 comes with the new Direct X12 3D interface. DX12 is designed to allow game programmers to use the capabilities of the GPU more efficiently. Computers with less powerful graphics cards can also benefit from this and display graphically complex games more smoothly. At the moment, the potential of DX12 can only be demonstrated using synthetic benchmarks such as the API overhead test. Conclusion: Windows 10 has the potential to accelerate games on weaker systems thanks to the DX12. But the concrete results will only show games that use DX12.
