We’ve sunk our teeth into the sweet Caesarean grape and extensively tested the new Anno 117: Pax Romana with a wide range of gaming PCs and settings. The following recommendations for different graphics presets therefore come straight from the hands-on experience of our in-house wannabe-imperators.
The most important questions about Anno 117: Pax Romana at a glance
The low CPU requirements are a particular achievement of the development team at Ubisoft Mainz. Strategy and city-building games usually demand a lot of CPU power – but Anno 117 runs perfectly fine with a moderate processor.
Ubisoft Mainz is setting new visual standards with Anno 117. The game even includes ray-tracing effects – something still quite rare for isometric strategy titles. This is definitely a strong argument for investing in a better GPU.
Since this isn’t a fast-paced ego-shooter, 45 frames per second (FPS) is more than sufficient in our opinion.
Anno 117 supports modern upscaling methods such as DLSS 4, FSR 3.1 and XeSS 2, while FSR 4 can additionally be activated via the AMD app. After thorough testing, we recommend DLSS 4 or FSR 4 – they deliver a noticeably sharper and cleaner image than native resolution with the internal TAA anti-aliasing.
Note: Our gaming PC recommendations start at the High preset, because anything below that loses a lot of visual potential in our view.

What can newcomers and veterans expect from Anno 117: Pax Romana?
In Anno 117, numerous gameplay mechanics have been made more accessible – for example through simplified production chains, clearer population and culture management, and improved building tools. The ancient Rome setting brings unique features such as Roman province administration, the influence of different cultures (e.g. Roman and Celtic), and new goods chains. The campaign gradually introduces these systems, tells the story of your role as a Roman governor, and serves as a tutorial at the same time. In addition to the campaign, Anno 117 offers a classic sandbox mode as well as multiplayer options for cooperative or competitive play.
