A brief history of the DOOM video game series

In 1993, DOOM revolutionized the first-person shooter genre with its fast-paced and brutal gameplay. Since then, countless FPS fans have eagerly awaited each new release in the series. Sometimes expectations are disappointed, as with DOOM 3, but in many cases, the developers hit the mark. DOOM from 2016 and DOOM Eternal won over a large fanbase.

With DOOM: The Dark Ages, id Software boldly treads new paths—or rather, old ones. Instead of futuristic Mars labs, the Slayer returns to a dark, medieval-inspired world. Rumors and early hints suggest a prequel to the current DOOM timeline—possibly telling the origin story of the Doom Slayer before he became an unstoppable force. Initial impressions are captivating, thanks to the morbidly imaginative array of playable weapons.
