HI-TECH for Gamers turns a full 40 years old in 2026. The legendary survival horror series Resident Evil is also celebrating a milestone this year – 3 decades of resource management and battling the Umbrella Corporation.
With such long histories, one looks back on both positive and negative highlights. Resident Evil is a great example in this regard. Capcom has tried something new with every new installment. As a result, not all fans like every title equally well. The gaming experiences are simply too different. But especially in recent years – above all with Resident Evil 7 – the series has probably celebrated one of the most acclaimed comebacks ever.
From Resident Evil 1 to 6, the series progressively turned more and more into a shooter. Some people liked this development. However, it increasingly raised questions about genre classification. Is RE a shooter or rather survival horror? Resident Evil 7 clearly answered this question again. The encounters with the Bakers were full of dark helplessness and desperate isolation. Later in 7, the defensiveness increased, but the franchise reset was successful. Village became action-heavy again, which is why we particularly like the direction of RE9.
As mentioned above, it has hardly been possible so far to satisfy all fans with the direction of any one part. The newest chapter might slightly undermine this statement from February 2026 onward. What we know so far shows us a dual approach. With the character Leon, the focus is on action, while Grace gets to face survival horror. According to our current information, every player must dive into both experiences, which could cause some discontent again. However, we believe the concept shows a great deal of understanding for the RE community.
As part of this community, we have also given some thought to suitable PCs for the release. The question is: Does Leon better fit UHD, or should Grace symbolically represent the top league? The answer depends entirely on your personally preferred playstyle.
