Which combination of technology suits you?
The detailed views in our HI-TECH Computer Shop convey our decades of experience and open up numerous configuration possibilities. You probably already know that a gaming PC is all about the processor, graphics card, memory (RAM), cooling, motherboard, power supply, and ultimately the case. We’ll also reveal how these components contribute to your perfect device.
Which CPUs lead to better gaming experiences in 2025?
Gamers know the importance of powerful processors for their favorite hobby. The video game industry is even considered one of the innovation drivers for more powerful CPUs in private settings. For the elite among our gaming PCs, we currently prefer to use AMD Ryzen 7 with 8 cores and 16 threads or variants of the AMD Ryzen 9 with 12 cores/24 threads or 16 cores/32 threads. Gamers with a preference for Intel processors often opt for the i9 series with 24 cores/32 threads in the top tier.
Those content with a mid-class power level in 2025 tend to prefer processors from the Intel i5 series with 10 or 14 cores and 16 or 20 threads, or an AMD Ryzen 5 with 6 cores/12 threads.
What do threads and cores mean in CPUs?
As a gamer, it often helps to understand modern Central Processing Units a bit better. This way, you can immediately recognize which games will run well on your system. A core is a processing unit. In the 1990s, CPUs had only one processing unit and could thus only handle one task at a time. Only after completing that task could the computer tackle the next challenge. Nowadays, all standard processors use multiple cores.
In addition to physical cores, modern Central Processing Units also work with logical cores, often referred to as threads. An advanced core can use Simultaneous Multithreading to act as if it were multiple physical cores. The game engine then assumes it can send as many computational tasks to the processor as there are threads available.
Note: This simplified description is not always entirely accurate, as threads sometimes handle smaller tasks, but it vividly illustrates the principle behind a CPU in 2025.
Why does my computer game need multiple CPU cores or threads?
It might seem intuitive that multiple cores or execution paths are exciting for someone running many tasks on the computer simultaneously. But if only one game is running without streaming on Twitch, it might sound like overkill. However, that’s not the case with modern games. Game developers program their software to send multiple tasks to the processor simultaneously:
- Game physics calculations
- Graphics rendering
- AI control
- Sound threads
- Processing player inputs
- Loading thread
- and many more
It’s easy to imagine that if all threads or execution paths in the CPU are occupied and an animation task or network thread comes up, they have to wait in line, slowing down the entire system’s performance.
A High End Gaming PC from HI-TECH in Traun can definitely be fully utilized by modern games.
What are recommended graphics cards in 2025?
Beside the Central Processing Unit, the Graphics Processing Unit is the second central component in your gaming PC. GPUs are now so powerful in processing large amounts of data that they have found numerous applications beyond rendering game worlds. Their properties have also proven highly advantageous in working with artificial intelligence or cryptocurrency mining.
We also install the best graphics cards in our gaming PCs. These models are even well-suited for scientific AI research. Our top models currently prefer the NVIDIA GeForce RTX Blackwell family or the AMD Radeon RX 7900 series. With an NVIDIA GeForce 4060 with 8GB, we still see good results in current games.
How does a GPU work?
While a CPU works with roughly 16 physical cores and a few additional logical cores, a GPU has thousands of shaders, as the processing units for graphics cards are often called.
Inside your graphics card, the principle of "Single Instruction - Multiple Data" is applied. This single instruction might be to assign a color to pixels, and then all shaders perform this task simultaneously.
Additionally, the VRAM in a graphics card is used to efficiently cache information for the shaders. Here you can learn more about graphics cards.
Note: The use of GPUs outside of graphics applications is called General Purpose on Graphics Processing Units (GPGPU).
Which memory technology fits in a gaming PC?
Sufficiently good RAM might improve your gaming experience in the most cost-efficient way. If there’s a lack of memory, fast-paced and visually stunning games will quickly start to stutter. Without enough memory, the system has to resort to other storage options, like the hard drive, for caching, and even the quietest and best SSD (even with PCIe-SSD) can’t keep up with good RAM.
Therefore, we recommend and install no less than 16GB of DDR4. Those looking a bit into the gaming future should already opt for DDR5 RAM and go for 32GB. Read more details about memory here.
Order gaming PCs without weaknesses at HI-TECH in Traun, Austria
Those who have been putting their mouse, keyboard, and gaming PC to the test for decades know the weakest links in the proverbial chain of the tower or laptop. These are the motherboard and the power supply. In the 2000s, experienced gamers often had spare parts for these components. Those days are thankfully gone, known to technicians at HI-TECH for Gamers (formerly hi-tech.at).
Manufacturers of modern motherboards and power supplies have caught up. We’re pleased to now be able to install devices like the FSP Hydro G Pro or products from the ASUS Prime series in our gaming PCs. No need for a spare parts inventory anymore.
